Posture Correction Exercises: A Physiotherapist's 5-Step Routine

Good posture isn't about standing rigidly straight, it's about your body being able to hold an easy, upright position without effort. Modern life rounds us forward, but a few minutes of the right work each day can genuinely change that.
What good posture actually looks like
Ears stacked over shoulders, shoulders over hips, ribcage not flared, weight evenly through both feet. It should feel relaxed, not military.
The 5-step daily routine
1. Chin tucks (10 reps)
Sitting tall, gently glide your chin straight back (not down) as if making a double chin. Hold 2 seconds.
2. Wall angels (10 reps)
Stand with back against a wall, arms in a goalpost position. Slide arms up and down while keeping contact with the wall.
3. Thoracic extension over chair (5 reps)
Sit in a firm chair, hands behind head, gently arch your upper back over the chair back. Breathe in as you extend.
4. Doorway chest stretch (30 sec × 2)
Place forearms on a doorway, step one foot through, and lean forward gently until you feel a stretch across the chest.
5. Glute bridges (10 reps)
Lying down, lift hips and squeeze glutes. Strong glutes are essential for upright posture.
How long until you see a change?
Most people feel less stiffness within a week and notice clear posture changes in 4 to 6 weeks of daily practice. Pair this with movement breaks during your workday for the best results.
Stuck with stubborn neck or upper-back tension? A short course of home physiotherapy in Pune across Aundh, Baner, Kothrud, and Wakad can speed things along.
